Janklow and Oswald

Bill Janklow

The previous post, about Dakota Territorial Governor William Howard’s brush with the Lincoln assassination, reminded me of a fascinating story Tom Lawrence wrote several years ago.

Lawrence wrote about Bill Janklow’s bizarre tie to the assassination of John F. Kennedy:

Janklow knew [JFK assassin Lee Harvey] Oswald. They were young men together in Marine boot camp in San Diego in the 1950s, and were on the same ship that took them to Asia for assignments. Janklow, like others who served with Oswald, said he was an extremely odd and troubling person. Could he have killed a president of the United States? Yes, it sure seems like he could have, Janklow said.

Tom spoke to Janklow personally about this unlikely encounter. I’d encourage you to read his entire account here.
