Charles Droz, a World War II veteran and former speaker of the SD State House of Representatives, died on July 22, 2025 in Miller, aged 101. Governor Larry Rhoden has ordered flags at the State Capitol to fly at half-staff on October 4, 2025, the day of his funeral.
Droz served in the State House from 1957-69. He served as Speaker Pro Tempore in 1963-64 and as Speaker of the House from 1965-66. In 1969, Droz resigned to direct federal farm programs in South Dakota during the Nixon administration.
