New Trail of Governors statues placed

The 2018 class of new Trail of Governors statues were placed on Tuesday, July 24:

10 McMaster
William H. McMaster, placed at Pierre St. and Sioux Ave. in downtown Pierre.  The gasoline can recalls McMaster’s effort to force down “unconscionable” retail gas prices in the early days of automobile travel.
17 Sharpe
M. Q. Sharpe, placed near the American Legion cabin at the end of Pierre St. in downtown Pierre.  Sharpe negotiated the Pick-Sloan Plan, on behalf of the state, to build the Missouri River dams.  Pierre is on the shores of Lake Sharpe, which is named in his honor.
21 Herseth
Ralph Herseth, placed near the State Capitol at the corner of Broadway Ave. and South Dakota Blvd.  Herseth was a farmer in rural Brown County.
