The news comes that Ron Schmidt, a longtime politico who was the 1998 Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, died on Sunday. Schmidt’s death comes just days after the passing of his wife, Priscilla.
Pat Powers has posted a nice tribute to Schmidt on his South Dakota War College blog, and rather than repeat that post, I would encourage you to read it. As Pat said, “Among South Dakotans, especially those in politics, Ron Schmidt was known by many, and I don’t know that a person could say a bad word about the man if they tried to think of one. Ron was a consummate gentleman, a professional, and a genuinely nice person.”
