South Dakota Law Review highlights the SD State Legislature

The South Dakota Law Review’s new issue

Volume 70, Issue 3 of The South Dakota Law Review is out. Prompted by the South Dakota State Legislature’s 100th session, the law review’s annual symposium issue features eight articles relating to the State Legislature and the legislative process. The complete issue is online here.

Among the articles is an overview of the history and development of the State Legislature, written by this blogger and David Wheeler, who led the legislature’s planning efforts for its 100th session commemerations.

Another article, by longtime legislative leader Lee Schoenbeck, tracks the development of the position of President Pro Tempore of the Senate, which Schoenbeck held for two tenures totaling six years.

Additional articles look at the codification of state laws, anti-corruption and open meeting laws, and the initiative and referendum process. It follows another symposium issue, just two years ago, that looked in depth at the impeachment and removal of Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.

The entire issue is worth a read.
